Artist Residency

The artist residency in Newark, New Jersey, is conceived as a living framework that honors the city’s long-standing cultural and artistic legacy. Rather than isolating artists within individual units, the project organizes living spaces around shared studios, galleries, and making spaces that also function as circulation, allowing creative work to remain visible and active throughout the building.

Residency units are embedded within this communal fabric, ensuring that artists are constantly surrounded by processes of making, critique, and exchange. These shared spaces become sites of collaboration and mentorship, where temporary resident artists and more permanent occupants coexist, creating a dynamic relationship similar to that of mentors and students. Movement through the building becomes a passage through art in progress.
