Accessory Dwelling Unit

New Jersey

Montclair, New Jersey

The accessory dwelling unit in Montclair, New Jersey, explores how language can translate into form through a small-scale residential intervention. Set within an existing suburban context, the project examines how spatial rules, proportions, and material relationships can be interpreted rather than simply repeated.

The design is organized as a sequence of moments defined by solid and void, compression and release. Circulation, thresholds, and openings act as architectural punctuation, allowing the space to read both as a place to live and as a conceptual study. Structure and enclosure are treated as tools for clarity and restraint.
