Voices of the Terminal
Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal
Jersey City, New Jersey
The Voices of the Terminal project investigates how architecture can reveal and reinterpret the layered histories embedded within the Liberty State Park train terminal. Rather than introducing a singular new form, the intervention occupies, extends, and manipulates existing spaces to uncover narratives of movement, migration, and pause that once defined the terminal.
By studying walls, windows, and voids at multiple scales, the project treats every surface as a potential volume and every volume as inhabitable. Interventions are inserted within the thickness of the building, carving galleries, passages, and moments of compression that transform overlooked spaces into sites of reflection. The design emphasizes the space between walls and the act of taking over rooms, allowing the terminal’s architecture to speak through subtle shifts rather than overt additions.
